We are currently looking for a Communications Manager to join our team!

As a key member of our Development and Communications team, you’ll lead Downstreet’s efforts to share stories, engage the community, and strengthen understanding of our mission. You’ll work closely with the Director of Development and program staff to develop and implement communication strategies that inspire support and deepen connections across Central Vermont.

This position is a great fit for someone who loves storytelling, writing, and relationship-building, and who wants to see their creative skills directly support affordable housing and community development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to support organizational goals and fundraising initiatives.
  • Write, edit, and produce content for newsletters, press releases, social media, website updates, and printed materials.
  • Manage Downstreet’s social media presence and monitor engagement analytics.
  • Coordinate media relations and serve as a point of contact for press inquiries.
  • Support fundraising campaigns through storytelling, design coordination, and donor communications.
  • Collaborate with staff to highlight impact stories and program successes.
  • Maintain brand consistency and ensure that all messaging reflects Downstreet’s mission and values.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support for the Development and Communications department, including maintaining contact lists, coordinating timelines, and assisting with reports or mailings as needed.
  • Assist with event promotion, photography, and other creative outreach activities.

Required Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong sense of narrative and audience.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with digital tools such as social media management platforms, email marketing systems, and website CMS.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Graphic design, photography, or video editing experience a plus, but not required.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and building stronger Vermont communities.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working at a computer.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $50,000 – $60,000, dependent on experience.
