We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Maintenance and Janitorial Technician to join our team at the Speranza Inn, a facility providing safe and supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. As part of our trauma-informed, strengths-based approach, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our guests. This position involves a combination of hotel maintenance duties, janitorial work, and direct interaction with guests in a trauma-informed setting. The ideal candidate will have property maintenance and janitorial experience, strong communication skills, a passion for supporting vulnerable populations, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance duties, including light plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs, as needed. Repairs include minor plumbing, basic carpentry, appliance troubleshooting and hardware replacement, minor electrical work, grounds keeping, exterior/interior painting, winterization of buildings and window replacement, operating machinery, janitorial, trash and debris removal, snow shoveling, etc. Individual may be required to oversee the service of contractor related services.
- Clean and maintain common areas, guest rooms upon vacancy, bathrooms, and offices to ensure a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Address maintenance issues promptly to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all guests.
- Engage with guests in a respectful and trauma-informed manner.
- Assist in the setup and organization of guest rooms, including bed linens and toiletries upon vacancy.
- Ensure that all hotel facilities are in compliance with safety, health, and sanitation standards.
- Support the overall operations of the hotel, assisting with guest intake or check-out as needed.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and maintenance tools.
- Work independently and as part of the Speranza team to carry out duties.
- Participate in regular team meetings and trainings.
Experience and Education

Two years of related maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education, employment, and life experience

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, basic blueprints, and procedural manuals

Ability to learn relevant property management and other Downstreet software

Ability to independently manage priorities and deadlines and ability to manage confidential information

Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with people from diverse backgrounds.

Valid Vermont Driver’s License, personal vehicle
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be physically able to climb stairs and ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Compensation
Salary: $20-$22/hour depending on experience
