Hamesbest

45 Water St, Randolph, VT 05061

Downstreet and Upper Valley Services have partnered to bring new opportunities for safe, supportive housing in Randolph through the Hamesbest project. This initiative focuses on creating high-quality, permanently affordable homes designed to meet the needs of individuals who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently and thrive in the community.

The home has deep roots in Randolph: originally built and lovingly maintained it served as a place of care, stability, and connection for generations. By working closely with Ruth Hodgdon and Norm Buchanan, Downstreet and Upper Valley Services were able to honor that legacy, ensuring the property continues to serve as a welcoming home for those who need it most.

The success of the Hamesbest project was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board (VHCB), Vermont Community Development Program (VCDP), Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA), the Town of Randolph, Efficiency Vermont, and private donors. With Downstreet’s expertise in affordable housing development and Upper Valley Services’ commitment to person-centered care, the project goes beyond bricks and mortar—it carries forward the spirit of the original owners by creating a place of stability, dignity, and community connection for residents in Randolph and beyond.
