Granite City Apartments includes two projects -- the rehabilitation of the old Ward 5 school into nine affordable homes, and the renovation of 18 affordable homes at Downstreet's Bromur Apartments.
Downstreet started construction on both projects in early 2024. The long-vacant, historic Ward 5 school will be transformed into beautiful new housing, permanently affordable to our lowest income community members. The nine new homes, including two studios, three one-bedroom, and four two-bedroom apartments, are expected to lease up in the fall of 2024. This investment in the old school is preserving Vermont’s rich past while creating a vibrant opportunity for Vermont’s future families.
