Home-Buyer Education

Do you know your credit score? Will your budget help you achieve your homebuying goals?

Most people don’t know the answers to these questions, and many of us don’t talk about money. Yet learning new ways to manage your financial life can improve your credit and create stability in your life in the short and long term.

Downstreet offers a Financial Wellness Program that helps you look at all of your personal finances and figure out a budget that works for you. At each appointment, you will meet with a certified counselor one-on-one and get answers to all of your questions. The program is comprised of four offerings:

  • Pre-purchase Counseling: An initial individual consultation to identify where you best fit in our program and where we create a personalized action plan to get you started on a path to reaching your Financial Wellness goals.
  • Credit Counseling: A comprehensive review of your credit and how to best build and/or repair your credit.
  • eHome America Self-Guided Homebuyer Education Workshop: An online HUD approved homebuyer education workshop that reviews the homebuyer process.
  • Purchase Ready Workshop: An in-depth breakdown of the steps to shopping for and buying a home, which includes a complete review of mortgage loans, how they work, and what’s available to first time home buyers, and a review of the responsibilities of owning and maintaining a home.

We want to help you reach your goals, whether that means getting your first credit card, improving your credit, addressing debt, or saving up for bigger purchases like a car or house.
