Executive Director Update: October 2026

Dear Friends,

I looked at my calendar the other day and wondered how we could possibly be this close to November. It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying the long days of summer, and now we're pulling out winter coats, thinking about the holidays, and trying to fit a few more things into the weeks we have left.

I caught myself wishing things would slow down. Just a little. And then I thought about what was actually filling my calendar.

There are challenges to work through, decisions to make, and plenty of things that don't go according to plan. But there are also conversations with people who care deeply about their work, colleagues who show up for one another, and the satisfaction of seeing something we've worked toward finally come together.

At Downstreet, it's easy to get caught up in everything that still needs doing. Our work is demanding, and the need for it never really lets up. But every day, in ways both big and small, we're helping people find stability, build a future, and feel more connected to their communities. Not everyone gets to spend their days doing work that matters so much.

So as we head into these last busy weeks of the year, I'm reminding myself to pay a little more attention to the good things happening along the way. To celebrate the small victories, enjoy the people around me, and remember that a full calendar can be a pretty wonderful thing.

I hope you'll find a few moments to do the same.

Warmly,
Angie Harbin
Executive Director
