Executive Director Update: May 2026
Dear Friends,
At Downstreet, we think a lot about what it means to be a good neighbor. It’s easy to imagine it as something simple: being kind, following the rules, lending a hand when you can. But at its heart, being a good neighbor is active. It’s the choice to show up for one another and to take responsibility for the wellbeing of the communities we share.
We see this in real and powerful ways. It’s the neighbor who helps carry groceries or holds open the door. The resident who keeps shared spaces welcoming or takes time to listen. The local partner who steps forward to strengthen a project. And we see it in the many people who believe that everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home—and who work to make that vision a reality.
These steady, everyday actions build something bigger: places where people feel safe, supported, and connected.
Strong neighborhoods don’t happen by accident. They take relationships, shared responsibility, and a willingness to show up for one another. When we invest in affordable housing, we’re investing in the strength and stability of whole communities. We’re creating places where people can put down roots, support one another, and participate fully in community life.
That’s what carries this work forward. Each act of participation, each choice to contribute, adds to something lasting—stronger neighborhoods, greater opportunity, and a deeper sense that we all belong.

Celebrating NeighborWorks Week
Downstreet is celebrating NeighborWorks Week with NeighborWorks America! From May 23 - June 7, 2026, NeighborWorks partners across the country will be volunteering in their communities to showcase and celebrate the power of collaboration between neighbors.
Downstreet and our residents will host a large-scale community clean-up and beautification day at our properties in Bradford on June 8th. If you see us, stop by and say hi! We're thrilled to celebrate NeighborWorks Week and all that it stands for in the Green Mountain State.
