Downstreet Update on the Federal Government Shutdown

Dear Friends,

As you know, the federal government is currently in shutdown. I want to share what that means for Downstreet, for our residents, and for our community.

First and most importantly: there are no immediate impacts on Downstreet operations. Our work continues as usual, and our staff remain focused on providing housing, support, and resources to those who rely on us.

We are actively monitoring reliable sources and tracking both immediate and potential long-term impacts if the shutdown continues. Many entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP are expected to continue for now. However, new applications and programs in transition may experience delays, and we are keeping a close watch so we can respond quickly.

Our Resident Services team and SASH staff are here to support residents and program participants who need extra help during this time. They are also providing accurate, up-to-date information so that the people served by Downstreet know where to turn for resources if challenges arise.

If you hear questions from community members, please reassure them that Downstreet is following developments closely. As always, we will share transparent updates as we learn more.

This is an uncertain time, but what remains steady is our commitment to provide safe, affordable housing, and to help our neighbors navigate whatever challenges come their way.

With appreciation,

Angie Harbin
Executive Director
