We are currently looking for a Donor Relations Manager to join our team!

The Donor Relations Manager plays a critical role in the organization’s success through the cultivation and management of donor relationships and the creation and execution of capital development strategies and fundraising campaigns. The successful candidate will be responsible for growing our revenue base through individual giving, grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events while maintaining alignment with our mission, values, and strategic plan. The Donor Relations Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and the Board Fundraising Committee and will collaborate often with the Communications Manager. This full-time position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilties

  • Develop, implement, and maintain all aspects of Downstreet’s fundraising initiatives including major gifts and donor programs, individual donations program, fundraising events, and corporate giving, as well as grants from foundations, government agencies, etc.

  • Assess and analyze the progress of the annual fundraising strategy and report recommendations to the Executive Director and the Board Fundraising Committee.

  • Assist in long-range planning to direct and implement Downstreet's annual fundraising efforts.

  • Research and identify potential donors and sponsors and implement strategies to foster positive donor relationships.

  • Manage individual and corporate gifts, planned giving, and annual giving campaigns.

  • Support the Board of Trustees (Board) and Board Fundraising Committee to cultivate donor relationships and fundraising growth; develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at enhancing deeper ties with current and potential individual donors.

  • Manage and ensure the quality of the donor database.

  • Develop direct solicitation lists, call lists, etc., and ensure that every donation is acknowledged in writing in a timely manner.

  • Work with organizational leadership to identify and submit grant proposals to support programming.

  • Network with the business and non-profit community to develop relationships on behalf of the organization and pursue financial and in-kind support.

  • Ensure sponsor relationships are optimized and coordinated across multiple events and opportunities.

  • Execute outreach efforts to develop an active volunteer base.

  • Research corporations, foundations, and government agencies that provide resources to the non-profit affordable housing industry.

  • Identify grant opportunities and work with the Executive Director and Communications Manager to write grant proposals, ensuring that deadlines are met.

  • Collaborate with Communications Manager to develop content for the organization’s Annual Report.

  • Collaborate with Communications Manager to ensure that messaging around fundraising is consistent with corporate messaging and marketing/outreach efforts.

  • Determine the need for print and digital communication materials related to fundraising and work closely with the Communications Manager to design and produce these materials.

  • Attend monthly Board Fundraising Committee meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Passionate about fundraising and social justice in Vermont, with an understanding of the important role affordable housing and related services have in our communities.

  • Ability to write clearly for various purposes, including internal communications, thank you letters, grant proposals, and formal gift acknowledgment.

  • Ability to work in PC format with an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, required.

  • Ability to professionally represent Downstreet to existing and potential funders, existing and potential donors, legislators, and Downstreet members.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field; advanced degree or development certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in fundraising in the non-profit sector required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the non-profit housing and conservation industry in Vermont.
  • Experience working with donor database software required.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

The Donor Relations Manager must have the physical and mental abilities to perform the essential job duties listed above. However, reasonable accommodation may be extended to help perform those duties. There will be prolonged periods of computer work. While performing the essential duties of this job the Donor Relations Manager may have to use hands and fingers, walk, stand, reach, or lift up to 25 pounds.
